After experiencing a depressed free-agency market for the second consecutive year, DeMarcus Cousins agreed to a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers. ESPN first reported the news.
Cousins became a casualty on the free-agent market on four fronts. One, the Warriors became strapped for cap space after acquiring D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade from Brooklyn as part of a consolation prize for Kevin Durant’s departure. Two, Cousins no longer appears as coveted as when he landed four All-Star appearances because of a modern game that calls for mobile players. Three, Cousins had just overcome two injuries to his left Achilles and left quad.
