You don’t play in a vacuum in a basketball game. (Although I readily admit that it often seems as if Steph’s playing the game in his own hermetically-sealed stress-free zone.) There’s always an opponent. And so it’s almost always a simplification to explain an extended game swing as being solely the result of the other team “getting hot.”
The reciprocal relationship between a fully engaged and active W’s defense (or not) and the opponent’s comfort-level in creating its own desired shots (or not) has rarely been on such clear display as it was last night.
When the W’s dictate defensively (and take care of the ball on offense), they’re literally unbeatable.
