Back when D’Angelo Russell was considered by many the NBA’s biggest pariah for recklessly betraying the trust of a teammate, Draymond Green was seemingly the only player in his corner.
Three years later, Green will be among those welcoming Russell into the Warriors locker room after Sunday’s reported sign-and-trade sent the All-Star guard to Golden State in a move that included Andre Iguodala’s trade to Memphis.
Green didn’t know the Lakers rookie, who had just turned 20 when he was castigated by teammates and opponents alike in 2016 for secretly releasing a video of Nick Young. In the video, Russell coerced an unsuspecting Young to admit he had cheated on his fiancee, singer Izzy Azalea.
