Warriors trade D’Angelo Russell to Timberwolves for Andrew Wiggins, draft picks

NEW YORK — The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade point guard D’Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves for wing Andrew Wiggins, a protected first-round pick in 2021 and a 2022 second-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Minnesota’s 2021 pick is protected for a top-three selection, but becomes unprotected in 2022. The Warriors will also send guard Jacob Evans and forward Omari Spellman to the Timberwolves, per ESPN.

In the days leading up to Thursday’s trade deadline, the Timberwolves continued to pursue pairing Russell with franchise centerpiece Karl-Anthony Towns. The two are long-time friends.
