During his eight years working with Craig Sager for TNT, Steve Kerr came to appreciate nights on the road with the legendary sideline reporter. The only problem? Meals or drinks were often abbreviated.
“You only saw him for about 15 minutes on the road because he had to move onto the next bar or restaurant to see the next group of people,” Kerr said of Sager, who died Thursday at age 65 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. “He literally couldn’t sit still, and he knew so many people that he was constantly on the run.”
A glassy-eyed Kerr opened his pregame news conference Thursday at Oracle Arena by reflecting on Sager.
