CHICAGO – This place marks where Alfonzo McKinnie’s circuitous basketball journey began.
He was born in Chicago. He played here both in high school (Marshall Metropolitan) and in the AAU circuit. He paid $175 to attend an open tryout for the Chicago Bulls’ G-League team two years ago. And now, McKinnie has become a rotation player for when the Warriors (6-1) visit the Bulls (2-4) on Monday at United Center, which is close to his childhood home.
“It’s going to be crazy,” McKinnie said of his return.
Before the game, McKinnie plans to visit his favorite local eatery either for fried chicken (Harold’s Chicken Shack) or a hot dog (Portillo’s).
