The Golden State Warriors surprisingly ran a 12-man rotation in their season opener Wednesday, a blowout 139-104 win over the sorry Portland Trail Blazers. Head coach Steve Kerr told reporters after the game that he made the call because he “couldn’t justify” trimming the lineup any further, adding, “This is as deep a team as I’ve ever coached.” Andrew Wiggins proclaimed, “I think we got the deepest team in the league.”
Most importantly, though, Steph Curry seemed to back the idea, saying depth is the team’s “identity” right now. When asked about how “sustainable” playing 12 deep would be, though, Curry talked a lot less about minutes and a lot more about attitudes in a way that raised some eyebrows:
