At 16-years-old, Rick Welts began his NBA career as a ballboy for the former Seattle Supersonics. Nearly 49 years later, Welts’ expanded his résumé as a public relations director, a key member of the NBA’s league offices and the Warriors’ current president and chief marketing officer.

Because of those varying responsibilities, Welts will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2018 as a contributor to the game.

“He took advantage of all the opportunities and just kept moving up in the game in the NBA,” said Hall-of-Fame NBA coach Lenny Wilkens, who coached the Supersonics’ lone NBA championship team in 1979.
