SALT LAKE CITY — Twenty minutes after he was finally selected in the 2016 NBA draft, Patrick McCaw received a call from his agent, Bill Duffy.
“This is a slam dunk,” Duffy said.
Milwaukee had traded McCaw’s rights to Golden State for $2.4 million. Fresh off their second straight Finals appearance, the Warriors wanted to sign McCaw — a second-round pick from UNLV — to a guaranteed two-year deal.
Now, six months removed from hearing 37 names called before his on draft night, McCaw is in the rotation for the best team in the NBA.
