WASHINGTON — Across Kevin Durant’s shoulders spans a massive tattoo spelling “Maryland.” It was there in Prince George’s County, just a quick Metro ride from the nation’s capital, that he kindled his passion for basketball.
It is the place, not the hometown Wizards, that has Durant’s affection. When he didn’t include Washington among the six teams he invited to the Hamptons in July to pitch him on signing, Wizards fans’ grassroots “KD2DC” movement effectively ended.
Now, as Durant prepares to play his first game at the Verizon Center since joining Golden State, he sees no need for hoopla.
