SAN FRANCISCO — Alen Smailagic is out indefinitely after rolling an ankle during training camp, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Friday.
The injury occurred during practice on Wednesday, and Smailagic underwent an MRI Thursday.
Smailagic, 19, played for the Warriors’ G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz last season, where he impressed the coaching staff with his potential and playmaking.
During June’s NBA Draft, the Warriors traded the rights to two future second-round draft picks along with cash considerations to the New Orleans Pelicans for the 39th pick and the rights to select Smailagic.
The Warriors have suffered several injuries at the center position already, having lost both Kevon Looney and Willie Cauley-Stein before the conclusion of training camp.
