Warriors hire then part ways with former SFPD chief Greg Suhr after backlash

OAKLAND — News broke Thursday that the Warriors had hired former Greg Suhr, the former San Francisco Police Department chief, to do some security work for the organization, particularly in an advisory role about the groundbreaking for the team’s new arena in San Francisco next Tuesday.

But the match didn’t last long. Suhr and the organization parted ways later in the afternoon after a strong backlash from social media.

Suhr was the chief of the SFPD from 2011 to 2016. During his tenure, his department was rocked by scandals. In 2015, 18 officers were found to have exchanged racist, bigoted text messages, in which one of the involved officers made a joke about “killing the bums.
