The NBA’s most valuable player in the 2017 championship playoffs lit up the faces of youngsters when he made a surprise visit to a Redwood City clubhouse Monday.
For many of the roughly 200 youths in attendance, it wasn’t the only surprise.
Golden State Warriors superstar forward Kevin Durant also unveiled a brand new outdoor court for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula’s Mervin G. Morris Clubhouse at 1109 Hilton St. The youths all received Kevin Durant Charity Foundation shirts and Nike hats, some of which were signed by Durant at the event.
To chants of “MVP,” Durant shot the first baskets on the new court, which is stenciled with his name and foundation, but missed three free throws before going in to dunk the ball to cheers.
