When the Golden State Warriors first started to make a run at disgruntled star Jimmy Butler, they quickly ran into a roadblock: Butler was, reportedly, unwilling to sign an extension with the Warriors. The six-time All-Star and five-time All-NBA selection’s contract with the Miami Heat included a player option for the 2025-26 season, and word was that Butler was hoping to opt-out of that final year and sign an extension. Except word was also that Butler was unwilling to do so with the Dubs. Reports went so far as to suggest the deal was almost fully off the table.
