In 1946, the Golden State Warriors organization was established in the city of Philadelphia. They were appropriately called the Philadelphia Warriors.
In 1962, the franchise moved to San Francisco and became known as the San Francisco Warriors. They played in various arenas, including the Cow Palace and the San Francisco Civic Auditorium, before playing most of their games in the Oakland Coliseum Arena (now better known as Oracle Arena) when it opened in 1966.
In 1971, the San Francisco Warriors announced were renaming themselves the “Golden State” Warriors and were going to split their home games between Oakland and San Diego.
