For a certain class of NBA All-Stars, Vince Carter’s iconic dunk contest performance at the turn-of-the-century festivities feels more than a lifetime ago. But for many of the other honorees in the Bay Area this weekend, that’s literally the case.
This year’s All-Star game features a competitive twist that separated players into three teams based on their age and experience. It’s a Goldilocks-style divide with one team that’s mostly young guys, one team that’s mostly “OGs” and a median-aged team — the “just right” member of this trio for the metaphor — that mostly features players of international origin.
