OAKLAND — Beneath the falling confetti, somewhere amid the swirl of happy bodies, Steve Kerr found his moment of peace.
The Warriors coach spotted his wife, Margot, pulled her tight and buried his face in her shoulder. By the time Kerr let go, his eyes were red with tears.
Above them, a sellout crowd of 19,596 swayed in unison during a sing-a-long to “We Are The Champions.”
And in that happy, sappy serenade, there’s a line that seemed written for Kerr.
“It’s been no bed of roses / No pleasure cruise … “
Kerr spent his championship season battling brutal, chronic pain — the lingering effects of what he has described as a botched back surgery.
