OAKLAND — Warriors coach Steve Kerr opened his pregame press conference on Monday afternoon with a story. It was about his kid’s first exposure to Martin Luther King Day.
“I think about this story every year,” Kerr said. “My son was five years old, in Kindergarten, came home a couple days before MLK day. Had this sad look on his face.”
“What’s wrong little buddy?” Kerr asked.
“Well, Monday is Martin Luther King Day and I didn’t get an invitation,” he said.
Kerr laughed at the memory, but then turned the conversation more serious — commenting on the meaning of MLK Day and his appreciation for the way the NBA honors it and, in general, has a culture of tolerance.
