Dwight Howard may have been facing down a suspension for a retaliatory backhand directed at Warriors’ center Andrew Bogut, but Rockets’ coach Kevin McHale had some critical advice for his star big man heading into Game 5.
“Hit them first,” he said. “They always call the second one.”
Back in McHale’s day – a career that spanned 13 seasons between 1980 and 1993 – McHale says that justice was doled out on the court.
“The referee would say ‘if you hold him he’s gonna hit you in the head,’ and then they’d quit holding you and you’d quit hitting them in the head,” McHale said.
