Collison was an underrated player in the latter half of his career, shooting above 40% from 3-point range between 2015 and 2019 while also serving as a steady hand who dished more than two assists for every turnover over that same time span.
But there's much more to Collison's story. In 2016, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery, and was eventually suspended for eight games. His case didn't draw much media attention; if the Warriors do sign Collison, they'll owe it to fans to explain why they're comfortable adding him to the roster. (For more on this subject, I recommend Diana Moskovitz's 2016 Deadspin piece entitled "Zero Tolerance For Domestic Violence Will Only Make It Worse," which lays out ways that pro leagues and teams can actually help people who have been abused by their pro athlete partners.
