Pre-Game 5: Adapt or Die

The Warriors rose to the occasion in spectacular fashion in Game 4, leveling the series against Memphis and shifting momentum strongly in the Warriors’ favor.  Steve Kerr and Ron Adams’ defensive adjustment, allowing Andrew Bogut to roam the paint and Tony Allen to shoot his team out of the game, was a masterful change-up — the type that can be the difference in a tightly contested playoff series.  The Grizzlies now have to answer.  They lack an obvious response that doesn’t create as many problems as it solves.

The strategic change that altered Game 4 has been covered extensively, and the shooting resurgence by the Warriors’ long-range threats was likely attributable in part to Tony Allen’s prolonged absence, along with the Warriors’ increased patience and their shooting percentage’s general return to the mean.
