On Jan. 18, Palo Alto billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya regaled his Twitter followers with the heartwarming story of how he came to own a piece of the Golden State Warriors.
Tell me if you can relate: It was 2011, he'd just left Facebook — "where he is credited with helping orchestrate its massive growth" — and was starting his own venture capital firm called Social Capital. He turned to Peter Thiel, a billionaire who bankrupted Gawker because of a decade-old grudge, to be an investor in the firm. (I will avoid saying anything negative about Thiel or the wonderful companies he owns like Palantir, which Palihapitiya was an early investor in, something he doesn't like to discuss.
