Chiquita Evans only wanted to be judged for her abilities as an NBA 2K player, not by her gender. But the 30-year-old woman needed someone to give her a real opportunity to do that.
The Warriors, who are fond of breaking down barriers, were happy to oblige. They used their NBA 2K team — Warriors Gaming Squad — to make a statement for equality’s sake by making Evans the first woman drafted in the professional eSports league.
Evans, who was just one of two women among the 198 draft-eligible players, was chosen by the Warriors with the second pick of the fourth and final round of the second annual NBA 2K League draft Tuesday night.
