Alfonzo McKinnie came from a path less traveled by most players — from open G League tryouts to a half-court FIBA international circuit — eventually finding a spot on the Warriors’ roster last season. As the season progressed, so did his role as McKinnie eventually became a regular face in Head Coach Steve Kerr’s rotation.
Filling-in behind Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala, and Kevin Durant, McKinnie averaged just under 14 minutes an outing, posting 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and 35.6 percent beyond the arc.
Though last season’s rotation did not provide an abundant amount of minutes for McKinnie, he was a key contributor to the Dubs: the team went 6-1 in regular season games when McKinnie scored in double figures, and 23-3 when the forward nabbed five or more rebounds, showing a correlation between McKinnie’s production and the team’s success.
