Eighty-three years after holding a regional final in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament in 1939, San Francisco will get another chance.
The NCAA announced Tuesday that the Pac-12 will host the West Regional from March 24-26 in 2022 at the Warriors’ new Chase Center, scheduled to open for the start of the 2019-20 NBA season. The 18,000-seat arena broke ground in January.
The last time the tournament was played in San Francisco was the West Regional at the California Coliseum on Treasure Island in 1939. The game took place during the Golden Gate International Exposition, a World’s Fair celebrating the opening of the Bay and Golden Gate bridges.
