Sports writer and commentator Michael Wilbon reflected Thursday on the racist vandalism that occurred at LeBron James’ Los Angeles home. Someone had scrawled the N-word on the gate of James’ Brentwood house.
Wilbon, who is African-American, remembered a quote he had heard about being a black male in America, and he said it’s akin to having another full time job. As a white male, I have no idea what African American men and women experience on a daily basis.
I don’t get followed in stores because someone thinks I’m going to steal something. When I apply for jobs or housing, no one discounts my application because of my race or gender.
