The aphorism “know thyself” comes from Ancient Greece, where it was apparently one of the three Delphic maxims inscribed in the forecourt, or frontcourt (not the basketball kind), at the Temple of Apollo. For the Golden State Warriors, adhering to this aphorism has been a bit of a struggle over the last few years. 2019-2020 was a write-off, marred by catastrophic injuries. And in the 2020-2021 season the Warriors certainly didn’t know themselves. Caught between contending and developing, playing their youth vs. playing their veterans, optimizing for talent vs. optimizing for fit, playing their preferred style of basketball vs.
