GM behind Luka Doncic trade once horrendously bombed a meeting with Steph Curry

It’s hard to find a move in the NBA world more inexplicable than the one Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison just made. But long before Harrison dumped Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, he also completely botched a golden opportunity with Warriors star Steph Curry.

As ESPN’s Ethan Sherwood Strauss reported in a 2016 feature, Harrison was an executive at Nike who was responsible for pitching Curry on signing with the powerhouse brand in 2013. But the meeting quickly became a calamity of disastrous errors and was the final straw for Curry, who decided to ditch Nike and eventually sign with Under Armour, something Strauss called the “marketing heist of the century.
