While Klay Thompson and Kevon Looney’s statuses with the Golden State Warriors remain uncertain, the team got some good news about another key player who has decided to return to the team.
According to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews, Gary Payton II opted into his $9.1 million player option for the upcoming NBA season. Andrews noted that because Payton is opting-in, he now has the option to sign a contract extension with the Warriors over the offseason.
Payton, a guard who is listed at only 6-foot-2 but often plays as a forward for Golden State, appeared in 44 games last season, averaging 5.
