OAKLAND — Each weekday around 3 p.m., Warriors guard Nick Young gets a buzz on his iPhone signaling a FaceTime call from a special person in his life.
Not an agent or a ticket requester, but his 6-year-old son, Nick Young Jr., more than 300 miles away in the San Fernando Valley, ready to tell his dad all about his day at school.
For the last eight months, that has been an all-too-common occurrence for Young, a father of two. With the first Western Conference finals appearance of his career on the horizon, he finally is getting the hang of a new reality: being away from home for the first time in five years.
