I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few weeks seeking out distractions, and one of my family’s preferred distractions is the Asterix series of comics, penned by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo and then translated into English by Anthea Bell and Derek Hockridge. I recently re-read Asterix in Corsica, a delightfully sardonic entry in the series that features an especially high quantity of drop-dead-hysterical character names. My personal favorite in the book is hapless Roman legionary Courtingdisastus, who, true to his name, courts disaster at every turn. I bring up poor Courtingdisastus because the Golden State Warriors emulated this character’s approach for over 40 minutes of game time against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
