“Draymond Green is literally not guarding anybody. He is a free safety out there.” — Michael Malone
It’s an odd statement on the face of it. Because as Malone well knows, Draymond certainly is guarding somebody. Though it’s true, not just “anybody.”
So let’s prick a little deeper.
What’s demonstrably true is that during Looney’s 13/11 minutes in the first two games Draymond is literally playing free safety (reminiscent of Bogut “guarding” Tony Allen). As if Denver doesn’t have enough problems, Aaron Gordon is killing them. But Malone looks down his bench, throws his hands heavenward, and turns back again.
