OAKLAND — Clinching a title on the home surface has been elusive in Bay Area sports history.
The A’s in 1974 are the last in the four major sports to do so — apologies to the 2002 San Jose SaberCats — after the Warriors blew two chances last year while losing the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
But here there are again, after seeing their chance of perfection slip away, with Game 5 at Oracle Arena on Monday at 6 p.m.
“That’s the opportunity in front of us,” Warriors guard Stephen Curry said. “We haven’t had that experience before, so it would be a great night to get it done, to take advantage of the home crowd, the energy, how poorly we played in Game 4, to try to make the necessary adjustments energy-wise and focus-wise to get it done.
