SACRAMENTO — Center Anderson Varejao has been waived by the Warriors, the team announced Friday.
Last February, when it signed Varejao, Golden State was precariously thin at center. Starter Andrew Bogut was out with a sore right Achilles tendon, and backup Festus Ezeli was recovering from left knee surgery.
But Varejao couldn’t carve out a regular spot in Steve Kerr’s rotation. In a possible 50 games this season, he has averaged 1.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 14 appearances (one start).
Varejao, 34, entered training camp in September hoping to be Zaza Pachulia’s primary backup.
