SAN FRANCISCO — When Marquese Chriss was mulling over where to play this season, the Warriors offered him something more than the two-way contracts that made up most of his options.
“They told me they would give me a fair shot to make the team,” Chriss said. “I think they’ve done that. They’ve put me in position to succeed.”
Impressed with Chriss in practice, coach Steve Kerr moved the 22-year-old big man into the starting lineup as the Warriors deal with preseason injuries to centers Willie Cauley-Stein and Kevon Looney. Chriss, as Kerr puts it, has been “the surprise of camp” and may be forcing the Warriors to find a way to keep him into the regular season.
