Ailing Kerr won't coach Warriors in opener (AFP)

Los Angeles (AFP) - Steve Kerr, who coached the Golden State Warriors to the NBA title last season, won't be on the team's bench to start the season, the Warriors said Saturday.

Kerr is battling continued symptoms, including severe headaches, caused by a spinal fluid leak stemming from back surgery in July.

Interim coach Luke Walton will be at the helm when the Warriors open the season Tuesday at home against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Walton has been coaching in place of Kerr throughout the pre-season and general manager Bob Myers said there is still no timetable for Kerr's return.
