A year and a half ago, I went to the opening of Mexico’s first NBA store. I was living in Mexico City at the time, but it wasn’t an easy trek — my wife and I hopped on a bus, transferred at a subway station, switched multiple trains then walked for another hour before finally arriving at our destination drenched in sweat. I was a homesick Warriors fan, and more than anything, I wanted to find a Juan Toscano-Anderson jersey.
Back then, Toscano-Anderson was on the Warriors’ G League squad, was a member of Mexico’s national team and was just a few weeks from being called up to the NBA, where he’d become only the fifth player of Mexican heritage to join the league.
