Golden State Warriors' head coach Steve Kerr has won the NBA Coach of the Year Award, reports ESPN. Kerr missed time early this season after offseason surgery, but guided the Warriors to a NBA record 73 wins.
Kerr received credit for all 73 wins, although assistant head coach Luke Walton was 39-4 in Kerr's absence. Walton placed 9th in the voting.
Kerr narrowly beat out Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts, who had 335 points to Kerr's 381. Gregg Popovich was third, with Steve Clifford and Dwane Casey rounding out the Top 5.
This is the first NBA Coach of the Year award for Kerr. Last year's winner was Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer, with Kerr placing in second.
In two seasons at the helm of the Warriors, Kerr has posted an incredible 140-24 record. He and the Warriors won the NBA Championship last season and are looking for a repeat this season.
