Stephen Curry will win his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award later this week, ESPN's Marc Stein reported early Monday morning.
Warriors guard Stephen Curry will this week be named NBA Most Valuable Player for a second successive season, ESPN has learned.

The award is no surprise, as Curry had one of the greatest single seasons in league history in 2015-16, averaging 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals while leading the Golden State Warriors to an NBA-record 73 wins. Considering the success of both player and team, many feel Curry could be the first ever unanimous MVP selection.
The official announcement should come some time during the Golden State Warriors' second-round series with the Portland Trail Blazers. The defending NBA champions, who lost Game 3 against the Blazers 120-108 on Saturday, enter Game 4 Tuesday night in Portland up 2-1 in the series. The team remains without the services of Curry, who is still recovering from a sprained right knee suffered in the first round against the Houston Rockets.
Curry will be re-evaluated on Monday with the hopes of returning in Game 5.
