While the NBA regular season is still in full-swing, the impending free agency of Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant is garnering plenty of attention. Earlier this week, there was a report that the Golden State Warriors are going to pursue Durant and that they are the front-runners to land him.
Now, there's a report from Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports that Durant has already quietly done his "due diligence" on the Bay Area, in the event he does sign with Golden State. Durant even admitted that free agency has at least crossed his mind, although he remains focused on the regular season and upcoming postseason.
"It’s hard for it not to enter your mind," Durant told Spears. "There’s a lot of uncertainty to what’s going on because I haven’t really thought that far. I just try to focus on playing basketball, man. When I lock in I try to get better every single day. I’m trying to come in and help my teammates every single day. That’s what my thought process is always focused on ... Once that time comes and I make that decision, I will sit down and talk to my closest friends and family and try to figure it out. Right now, I’m trying to be the best basketball player I can be every single day."
Durant and the Thunder visited the Warriors Saturday night, with the Warriors picking up the win. Durant spoke highly of the Warriors' Oracle Arena.
“It’s a great atmosphere," Durant said. "It’s always been one of my favorite arenas just because it’s small. I always say that it always feels like you’re playing on a hill. I don’t know why it feels that way. It’s always a fun arena since my rookie year. I feel like this is one of the best arenas in the league."
Oracle won't be the home arena much longer, as the Warriors will be moving from Oakland and heading across the bay for a new, expensive arena. The Warriors are also hoping that Durant will head west and join the Warriors.
