Regardless of whether or not the Golden State Warriors were looking past the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night, they're left picking up the pieces after their worst loss of the season -- a 113-95 blowout defeat which opens a three-game East Coast road trip on a deflating note.
With the loss, Golden State (37-4) has lost two of three for the first time all season. Detroit (22-18) snaps a two-game skid with the win.
Reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry had a typically fantastic night, scoring 38 points while hitting seven three-pointers. Klay Thompson chipped in 24 in an impressive performance as well.
However, everyone else on the roster had an off night as Golden State shot just 36.6% on the evening. That number was padded by Curry's big night and Thompson's complementary work, so you get an idea of just how cold every Warrior not named Curry or Thompson was from the field.
Things were so bad that the normally composed Warriors picked up three technical fouls while the Pistons ran away with the game. Detroit outscored Golden State 38-19 in the second quarter, turning a three-point deficit after one into a 16-point halftime lead that the Dubs couldn't come back from.
All five Pistons starters scored in double digits, with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope helping leadthe charge with 20. PG Reggie Jackson also chipped in 20 while running the offense to near perfection.
The Pistons are now 14-6 at home and remain in playoff position in the East. Tonight's win came on Ben Wallace Night as the team retired the jersey of their former beloved big man.
Golden State is now 4-4 in their last eight road games, with massive showdowns looming in Cleveland (Monday) and Chicago (Wednesday). Those two Eastern Conference powers are a combined 41-7 at home.
