The NBA Draft is over and the Golden State Warriors have turned their complete attention to the start of free agency on July 1st. The Warriors have cap space and will try to add a big name this offseason. They're also still searching for an assistant head coach. Here are all the latest Warriors rumors and news and you need to know.
Warriors Offer Job To Mike Brown
The Warriors are still searching for a new top assistant to replace Luke Walton, and it might end up being former Cavaliers and Lakers head coach Mike Brown. The team has offered him the position, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. The two sides still need to work out compensation, but Brown seems likely to end up in Golden State next year. He hasn't coached since being fired by the Cavs after the 2013-14 season, but Wojnarowksi reports he spent much of his time around the Spurs and mentor Gregg Popovich last year.
Who Wants DeRozan?
The Raptors, for good reason, are the odds-on favorite to sign DeRozan. However, Sam Amick of USA Today reports they aren't the only team that will make a push for the young guard.
As for DeRozan, he has plenty of options on hold as well. The Lakers, who could wind up getting a meeting with DeRozan, in part, because he still resides there during the summer, are widely known to be very interested in making him part of their young core. The Clippers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, and Orlando Magic are also hoping to lure him stateside.
The Warriors aren't that far from his hometown of Los Angeles, at least compared to Toronto. Joining Golden State would also give DeRozan a better chance to win and he'd be a major upgrade over Harrison Barnes. However, it'd be a surprise to see DeRozan leave Toronto, even for the Warriors. Expect him to stay in Toronto.
