The Golden State Warriors trailed the San Antonio Spurs by 22 points during the first quarter. But despite that hot start, the Spurs couldn't keep the lead. The Warriors rallied on the road and picked up a key 110-98 win Wednesday night.
The Warriors and Spurs were separated by just 2.5 games in the race for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, meaning this matchup carried a bit more weight than the standard regular season bout. The win gives the Warriors a 3.5 game lead with seven games left for the Warriors and eight for the Spurs.
It was much more back-and-forth after Warriors mounted their impressive comeback, until a big fourth quarter from Golden State. The Warriors shot 51.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3. The Warriors were a perfect 11 of 11 from the free throw line.
The Splash Brothers were sharp in this one. Stephen Curry had 29 points and 11 assists, while Klay Thompson dropped in 23 points. Curry was 4 of 8 from 3-point range, while Thompson was 4 for 9.
Andre Iguodala was key off the bench. He had 14 points and six rebounds, with a good chunk of that coming early as the Warriors tried to rally. David West had 15 points, four rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
Four different Spurs had double-figures in the losing effort. Pau Gasol came in off the bench to put up 18 points, seven boards and four assists. LaMarcus Aldridge had 17 points and six rebounds. Danny Green was hot early and finished with 16 points and six rebounds. Kawhi Leonard had 19 points, seven boards and five assists, but was 0 of 5 from 3-point range.
