There has to be a seven-game series matchup between the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder during the playoffs. These two teams have played two games so far this season, and each one has been a nail-biter decided in the final seconds of the game.
Friday night’s game was fast-paced and aggressive, much like the last contest, with both teams trading the lead for the majority of the game. In good news for the Warriors, Stephen Curry looks back to normal – he finished the game with another double-double. After multiple subpar shooting nights, Curry scored a team high of 32 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Harrison Barnes—starting in place of Andre Iguodala (sprained hamstring)—added 26 points.
The Warriors ended the fourth quarter tied at 104, leading to overtime, but overtime wasn't very different from regulation.
Although we’d all like to blame the refs for the outcome of the game, it came down to the basics. The Warriors shot a mere 69% from the free throw line, and when the rebounds mattered, the Warriors didn’t secure them. With minutes left in overtime, Klay Thompson seemingly let the ball just bounce out of bounds—it looked like it had gone off Serge Ibaka’s hand last, but the refs called it differently.
The Warriors were down with 45 seconds left until Barnes’ reverse layup put the Warriors up by two. However, much like the last time these teams faced each other, Russell Westbrook sank a three in the final seconds – but this time, the Warriors didn’t have enough time left to get off a shot of their own.
The Warriors weren’t able to get a shot up in the final 0.1 seconds, and the game ended 112-113 to Oklahoma City.
