There were plenty of fans who wanted to see Andre Miller join the #FullSquad movement, but instead the Warriors landed guards Jordan Crawford and MarShon Brooks from the Boston Celtics in a three-team trade that sent Toney Douglas to Miami.
Andre Iguodala has proven to be more valuable to the Warriors than Jarrett Jack and Carl Landry were, but when Jack “hit the road”, the pressure that he'd taken off Steph Curry came right back. Golden State tried to find another player similar to Jack who could effectively back up Curry, but Toney Douglas wasn’t nearly as effective as Jack was.
Now that the Warriors have acquired Crawford, who's been the Celtics' starting point guard since Rajon Rondo got injured, they finally have a suitable backup for Curry. Although he came into the NBA as a shooting guard, he's developed into more of a playmaker under Celtics coach Brad Stevens, and that's exactly what the Warriors have been looking for. Crawford averages 13.7 ppg, 5.7 apg, and 3.1 rpg.
As for Brooks, he wasn’t able to play many games this season - he's played in a total of 10 so far. On the positive side, Brooks is a scorer who can create offense off the bench. In his recent time with the Celtics' D-league affiliate, he averaged 27.4 points per game.
These are both players who can score efficiently. The Warriors bench had no proven offensive outlets, and these two will be able to contribute right away in that department. Golden State will be hoping hoping that Crawford and Brooks can provide a major upgrade to their second unit, and bring them one step closer to genuine title contention.
