In today's trending Warriors news, new Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is looking to add one of the most decorated head coaches in European professional basketball history to his new coaching staff.
Per Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, "Kerr is pursuing a powerful coaching partnership with one of the world's best offensive minds, Maccabi Tel Aviv coach David Blatt, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
Landing Blatt could be a huge move for Kerr as Blatt has the innovative mind necessary to transform an offense that could be stagnant at times under former coach Mark Jackson.
The two parties are already engaged in talks, with Blatt reportedly in line to land the top assistant spot on Kerr's staff. Blatt has reportedly been interested in making the jump to the NBA before, but had originally been hoping to segue right into a head coaching job in the league.
However, according to Wojnarowski, "the chance to transform Golden State's deeply talented offensive roster could become a springboard into a head coaching job elsewhere, and that holds appeal to Blatt, sources told Yahoo Sports. The Warriors have tremendous offensive weapons, including All-Star guard Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and Kerr is trying to put together a staff to maximize those talents."
Blatt coached an underdog Macabbi Tel Aviv team to a huge upset over Real Madrid in the Euroleague finals. He has had amazing success in his two decades overseas, leading Russia to the 2007 Eurobasket title and to a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics.
He was born and raised in the U.S., playing basketball at Princeton before starting his coaching career abroad.
