The Golden State Warriors have been one of the NBA teams to really take advantage of their D-League affiliate, and the partnership continues to pay dividends for both sides.
The Warriors assigned C Ognjen Kuzmic to Santa Cruz on Saturday to get him some playing time in SC's game against the Canton Charge, and he managed to get 30 minutes out of the deal. Matching up against former Syracuse star Arinze Onuaku, Kuzmic made three of his four shots for six points to go with eight rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. Kuzmic recorded a +18 +/- rating as the Warriors won 98-83.
Klay Thompson's brother Mychel pitched in with 20 points on 9-13 shooting (2-4 from behind the arc), while G Elliot Williams had 17 points and 12 assists. Former OSU G Aaron Craft, who spent the preseason on the Warriors roster, had 6 points, 9 assists and 2 steals.
Kuzmic has played in 14 points for the senior Warriors squad this season, averaging 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds in 4.7 minutes of action per game. Despite injuries to Andrew Bogut and Festus Ezeli, coach Steve Kerr has largely favored playing Marreese Speights and David Lee at center instead of turning to the second-year player the Warriors signed out of Spain last season.
The Santa Cruz Warriors currently lead the D-League's West Division with a 11-5 overall record. Next up, they'll hit the road for a matchup with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (10-10) on Tuesday.
