With Klay Thompson AND Steph Curry in the mix, this year's three-point shootout is looking more interesting than this year's dunk contest...and this might be the first time that's ever happened.
The two Golden State Warriors stars are among the league leaders in made three-pointers - Klay is third and Steph is fourth - and they'll join one of the most loaded shootout rosters in recent memory. In addition to the Splash Brothers, Portland's Wesley Matthews (1st in made three-pointers), Atlanta's Kyle Korver (1st in three-point percentage, 2nd in made three-pointers), and JJ Reddick of the LA Clippers (6th in three-point percentage, 7th in made three-pointers) will also participate, along with a currently unknown sixth player.
This will be Curry's fourth three-point shootout appearance and Thompson's first. Curry has never won the event, but recently told reporters recently he'll keep trying until he wins it. Both players will no doubt have some expert tutoring - Curry's father Dell competed twice (1992 and 1994) and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr competed four times, winning the 1997 shootout in Cleveland.
That 1997 performance saw Kerr earn 22 points in the final and decisive round, a total that's still tied for 4th all-time. Kerr's victorious performance that year included nine consecutive made shots, which is also tied for fourth all-time.
The contest will take place Saturday February 14 at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.
