In Grantland's deep dive into the Warriors' return to prominence (which you should really read, as soon as possible), there are quite a few interesting nuggets about how the current Warriors roster came to be. One of the more interesting concerns the trade speculation that linked Klay Thompson to Minnesota over the Summer, and how Thompson found out that speculation had come to an end:
“Clearly, we had an opportunity to make a big deal, which would have involved Klay, and it was a very complex decision,” Lacob says. “It went on for quite a long time. Really a couple of months. It’s always a tough call on something like this. There are great players going both ways. But at the end of the day, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are maybe the best backcourt in the NBA. That doesn’t come along every day.” After months of speculation, Kerr sent a text message to Klay: You’re not going anywhere. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to coach you."
Thompson is averaging 21 points this season on .458 shooting from the field and .431 shooting from behind the arc - all career highs. The Warriors, meanwhile, are an NBA-best 26-5.
Kevin Love for Klay Thompson... yeah that won't work anymore lmao
