It's no secret that this Golden State Warriors team is already one of the best in franchise history, and they're putting up some truly mind-blowing statistics.
Tuesday night's blowout win over the Sacramento Kings was Golden State's 29th double-digit victory of the season. The last time the Warriors won that many games in a single season by double digits? 1975-76...and it's only early February.
The Warriors set a franchise record for double-digit wins that year with 32 victories by 10 or more points. That year, the Warriors were coming off their first NBA Championship since moving from Philadelphia to San Francisco, and they finished with an eventual record of 59-23. While they made it back to the Western Conference Finals, they were unable to defend their crown as they fell in seven games to the Phoenix Suns.
That Warriors team actually had a fair amount in common with the current one. Led by a dominant sharpshooter (Rick Barry) with scoring help from an up-and-coming shooting guard (Phil Smith), that Golden State squad also had a deep bench, an underrated defense, and a high-scoring, fast-paced offense. Big man Clifford Ray was an imposing inside presence (although not much of a scorer) and those Warriors also had a very deep bench, with nine players averaging more than 15 minutes per game.
Golden State hosts the Dallas Mavericks at Oracle Arena on Wednesday night looking for their third straight win.
